Should people applying for government aid be subject to drug screening?

Friday, October 29th, 2010
Dirty Nasty asked:

Think very carefully. Should any person who applies for any public assistance what so ever, be subject to drug screen. That is welfare, student loan, government subsidy, business loan etc.

What happens is i stop paying student loans?

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010
uslambo182 asked:

i owe nearly $100k, all government loans. theoretically, what would happen if i just stopped paying? I could care less about a ruined credit score, the only and most valuable item i owe is a 5yr old computer so i don’t see collection agencies being able to take anything away from me, i have no desire to ever own a house or a car or any other ‘things’, and i am living very happily in a place far away from the US. I don’t owe taxes in the US so there’s nothing they can take from me.

Theoretically, what’d happen if i stopped paying? I’m not able to defer the loans any more either. Would i go straight from the airport to jail if i ever came back to the States?

I’m looking for legit info. thanks.

Do you think that government loans to college students should stop?

Monday, October 25th, 2010
righteousness asked:

because that is the reason college is so expensive.

Colleges know the government will foot the bill so they charge more and students leave college with more debt. Then people blame the free market and we have more government intervention.

On a free market the price would be much lower.

Government loan’s distort the market because it means we have too many people going to college.

On a free market if you really needed a loan you would go to the bank. The bank has their statisticians and they will grant you a loan based on the statistic regarding your course degree. If they find you can pay it back you will get the loan. If you can’t than that means college is not worth it. A government loan does not change that fact.

College is very overrated.

Student loan help, is there any other government help that can help me for 2 months while i go to school?

Friday, October 22nd, 2010
Chiyou asked:

hi, heres my situation:

i’ve been attending the Art Institute for now 5 quarters, i was funded by this government funded program to go to school only having to pay a small contribution which i had to take out student loans for, so the program that i was in had a rule that if you fail a class they drop funding and you have to complete it in your own time with your own money (which means that i have to pay for living support as well for a whole quarter, 3 months) now in this program i wasn’t allowed to work, so when i failed the class they dropped funding immedietly and i had to search for work.

Problem is no one is hiring around my location and if they are they’re hours aren’t flexible enough to allow me to go to school. I have a BC student loan schedualed for april and i was hoping i could appeal so i could get it sooner so i wouldn’t have to worry about work, however i couldn’t appeal it, and i cant find work! I was wondering if there is any other way i could get through the next 2 months without getting a job because my school schedual is demanding..
oh btw i’m Canadian :P

Federal Student Loans?

Saturday, October 16th, 2010
Soficetica asked:

Has anyone every wondered why the government isn’t doing anything about the jobs being outsourced? And if former college students are having problems with paying back their loans, why can’t the government do anything about these jobs so that these former college students would be able to pay the federal(and I repeat FEDERAL) students loan back?
Additional Details

Ok we borrow federal student aid from the government and after we graduate, we would have to pay these loans back to them… So my argument is that if they need these money back to them, why can’t they do anything about these jobs??

So if they want us to contribute to the society economically, why can’t they do something about it?
So all those years(2-6-or even more yrs) of going to college for a specific type of major(for that dream job) is just down the drain? That’s just a big waste of going to college then..

Student loan. no cosigner. need help?

Thursday, October 14th, 2010
Ryan F asked:

Ok… my parents suck… they make a ton of money but they don’t help me out with school. Because they make a ton of money i don’t get a whole lot of help from the fafsa. I get the bare minimum that the government is required to give out, which sucks. I drive a 2 hour round trip to school and back 5 days a week, i have a 3.0 gpa but can’t seem to get many scholarships cause i’m not a phenomenal student, but i’m not a bad one by any means.

I tried to get a private student loan but i need a cosignor. I’m a sophomore in college.

Am i eligible for any more government student loans? Is there a lendor i can get a private student loan from without a cosigner? i can’t afford school anymore, which sucks, because all the money i put back has been used and i went to a community college for my first year and a half, this last semester i went to main campus because the community college i went to didn’t have any more classes i could take. I went in credit card debt cause i had classes 11 hours a day, 5 days a week, but i had to go in debt otherwise i couldn’t have paid for gas to get to school and back each day. My credits still decent though.

I’m pretty much screwed aren’t i?
I meant to add that i didn’t have any time to work except for on the weekends and my boss would only work me 16 hours a week, which was barely enough to pay for my car insurance and my monthly car payment to my parents, let alone gas and food

Loan, mortgage or student loan for further education?

Thursday, October 14th, 2010
j2008 asked:

I need $7000 for a school tuition and try to find the smartest way to finance that. The private school does not offer student loans from the government. What do you think?

And what is it about the advertisement “mothers get money from the state to get back to school”? I will be a mother in May – are there any state fonts for further education for mothers?

How do i go about getting a student loan?

Friday, October 8th, 2010
bubbles500 asked:

I currently attend the University of Texas at Austin and I need a loan. I can’t afford my tuition or living expenses and i didn’t get enough financial aid. I don’t want to have to start paying my loan until after i graduate. Should i try to get a loan through UT, a government loan, or a federal loan?

Thanks a lot!
