I currently have 2 active government student loans and 2 government student loans in deferment. I am wanting to drop two of my classes this term, which will put me at 6 credit hours (which is half time). If I withdraw from these 2 classes, will it effect my student loans or grants? i.e., will I have to start paying them back right away?

I am a medical student and will have to go on “away” rotations in order to graduate. Some of them are in rural areas. I would be perfectly happy not to have a car, but I don’t think I can graduate without one. My class load is too heavy to work any kind of steady job. I’m wondering how exactly the federal government expects people to handle this situation.
Cardtapper: my point is that the car *is* part of my school expenses. If I were not in school, I would not need it. I have survived many years of adult life without a car, but I have walked and used public transit. This is not an option when on a rotation in an isolated rural area.
Also: I was looking for an answer from someone who can actually explain this to me. I am well aware that it is not the government’s job to solve all my problems, but I don’t think it’s that much to ask to have transportation expenses covered when I’m faced with constantly changing, often rural locations and odd hours, especially since I will be paying the money back! (Re: making “bank” there are some ethical tradeoffs involved, and the whole system will likely change in the next few years)

It is not likely that I’ll be able to receive a stafford loan from the government but I will be in need of a student loan. I want to be able to attend a CUNY school, most likely Baruch, which is very affordable and I just was curious if anyone had any knowledge on this subject.

I have accepted $20,400 in Direct unsubsidized loans but need about $50,000 in aid to make it through each year. i’ve been attending the Art Institute for now 5 quarters, i was funded by this government funded program to go to school only having to pay a small contribution which i had to take out student loans for, so the program that i was in had a rule that if you fail a class they drop funding and you have to complete it in your own time with your own money (which means that i have to pay for living support as well for a whole quarter, 3 months) now in this program i wasn’t allowed to work, so when i failed the class they dropped funding immedietly and i had to search for work.

Problem is no one is hiring around my location and if they are they’re hours aren’t flexible enough to allow me to go to school. I have a BC student loan schedualed for april and i was hoping i could appeal so i could get it sooner so i wouldn’t have to worry about work, however i couldn’t appeal it, and i cant find work! I was wondering if there is any other way i could get through the next 2 months without getting a job because my school schedual is demanding..

Ok… my parents suck… they make a ton of money but they don’t help me out with school. Because they make a ton of money i don’t get a whole lot of help from the fafsa. I get the bare minimum that the government is required to give out, which sucks. I drive a 2 hour round trip to school and back 5 days a week, i have a 3.0 gpa but can’t seem to get many scholarships cause i’m not a phenomenal student, but i’m not a bad one by any means.

I tried to get a private student loan but i need a cosignor. I’m a sophomore in college.

Am i eligible for any more government student loans? Is there a lendor i can get a private student loan from without a cosigner? i can’t afford school anymore, which sucks, because all the money i put back has been used and i went to a community college for my first year and a half, this last semester i went to main campus because the community college i went to didn’t have any more classes i could take. I went in credit card debt cause i had classes 11 hours a day, 5 days a week, but i had to go in debt otherwise i couldn’t have paid for gas to get to school and back each day. My credits still decent though.

I’m pretty much screwed aren’t i?
I meant to add that i didn’t have any time to work except for on the weekends and my boss would only work me 16 hours a week, which was barely enough to pay for my car insurance and my monthly car payment to my parents, let alone gas and food
