and there was an entry from a student loan consolidation company called Nelnet that I have NEVER done business with. I opened the first letter they sent me and after my husband and I figured out what they are, we shredded the letter.

How in the world can a company I’ve never contacted have an entry on my credit report?

Create a video blog…instantly.
It could be a number of things. First concern is that someone has used your info fraudulently to open this account in your name at their benefit. It could also simply be a mistake such as a transposition of #s in the SS# when they entered it in their systems. You should call that creditor. Their # should be on your credit report. If you are not successful in dealing with the creditor, dispute the account directly with the credit reporting agencies.

student loan consolidation
They may be doing business under another name OR they may have purchased your debt.
Send a certified letter requesting they verify your account, including contracts, payment history, etc.

Is your name a common one like Jones or Smith, if so it could just be a mistake. Or did you get a student consolidation, if so maybe they sold the debt to another lender. Whatever the reason if it is not your debt you need to find out. Write a letter to the credit bureaus to tell them this is not your debt and demand that Nelnet furnish copies of the paperwork to verify this is your loan. If they are unable to provide this documentation or realize they have made a mistake it should come off your credit report.
